On Saturday, June 9, the No Child Hungry feeding program will have its registration event for families in need who want to ensure they have a meal for their children each weekday.
The registration is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the International House of Restoration Outreach Ministries at 1912 15th Ave. N., and anyone in the Druid Hills area or surrounding areas is welcome to sign up.
Program Coordinator Meyoka Carmichael said during the registration, free hotdogs, chips and juice will be served for kids. She added that parents and children must be present during registration, in addition to each time in the future they come to pick up free lunches.
"What we are doing is we want to make sure the kids get something to eat for lunch every day," Carmichael said.
She also said to come prepared with allergy information for the children, "because we want to make sure everybody can get what they need" without the risk of any allergic reactions. Carmichael said they would like to complete the registration Saturday so that they can make the menus.
The program is for ages 1 to 16, she said, and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day this summer they will give out sack lunches to children signed up for the program
The program lasts all summer, starting June 11 and continuing until the children go back to school.
Although this is the first year for the summer lunch program, she said, they have already been doing a feeding for the community at the church on every second Tuesday where they provide hot meals for adults and children in need. Additionally, they have a grocery giveaway on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
"So we are already involved in the community; we just wanted to do something for the children so that they can not be hungry, and make sure they are eating that meal," Carmichael said.
