Located on the corner of First Ave. N and 24th Street across from Mike’s Pawn Shop, Birmingham Food Park is bringing even more buzz — and convenience — to the ever-expanding Birmingham food scene.
Owner Terry Damsky said he’s ecstatic about the location, because there’s plenty of free parking behind the park and along First Avenue, which he knows is something that’s sometimes hard to find downtown.
“So it’s very easy for the business person to grab a quick lunch or eat under the umbrellas at our picnic tables,” Damsky said. “We have a tremendous number of foodies who work in the downtown area.”
In fact, within the first 24 hours of opening, the Birmingham Food Park Facebook page had more than 2,000 followers from all over the South, and within three days, they had 8,000 followers from the metro Birmingham area.
During its grand opening event July 1, Damsky said the four independent food truck vendors served more than 2,000 people and ran out of food by early afternoon. “The demand for a food truck venue downtown is certainly here,” Damsky said.
Currently, Birmingham Food Truck Park plans to have two to four vendors there for both the dinner and lunch hours seven days a week. Lunch hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with dinner hours from 4-9 p.m. Damsky said they’re in the process of developing live music events at the venue. “Our Facebook followers will be the first to know,” he said.
