REV Birmingham announces finalists for Big Pitch competition
REV Birmingham has chosen the 10 finalists in its third annual Big Pitch business-plan competition, which carries a total of $25,000 in prize money, according to an email from the nonprofit group today.
The 10 finalists were picked from a total of 61 applications that REV received before its entry deadline on Sept. 6.
Here are the contestants:
- Antionette Neeley – Organically Yours, organic oatmeal cookies/locally-based food processing company that produces organic dessert foods.
- Danielle Hines – Party Boutique Kids, tailored and themed kids’ entertainment parties
- Elle Nelson – Studio Steel, pole fitness studio designed for a diverse adult demographic
- Eric Holsomback – Wholesome Soda, Locally-made, natural soda for health-conscious beverage seekers
- Gabriel Marrero – Tropicaleo, fresh-casual Puerto Rican cuisine and dining experience
- Jerethia Blake – Pure Imagine Candy Shoppe, mobile candy shop with custom candy options and unique charm
- Matthew Hamilton – Kinetiq Movement, local obstacle park and indoor challenge facility for adventurous athletes
- Nathan Pocus – Domestique Coffee, Gourmet, high-quality, fair-trade coffee business inspired by Haiti
- Saramia Arenas – Rainy Day, an artist collective retail business made up of local makers
- Soapy Jones – High-quality, all-natural soap and skincare products with locally-sourced ingredients. Botanicals and essential oils
The winner of “The Big Pitch” will be chosen after a “Shark Tank”-style public competition on Nov. 12.
At that event, the 10 finalists will compete before a live audience and a panel of judges for a chance to win cash, professional services and a chance at an investment in one or more companies.
Applications to The Big Pitch can come from individuals or groups. The 2015 winners of the $15,000 first prize were the owners of East 59 Vintage & Café, a popular spot in East Lake. They are now creating an events center near the cafe.
