Women in Business: Bacarra Mauldin - ClasTran

by

Every day, Bacarra Mauldin feels the joy of knowing that her career helps change people’s lives.

Through her work as executive director of ClasTran, she gets to set the tone for a team of people who provide transportation to senior adults, people with disabilities and people without transportation in rural Jefferson and Shelby counties. The nonprofit has been offering these services since 1997, which adds up to a lot of lives changed.

The goal is to offer independence to the people they transport.

“As a paratransit consortium, we help those reach their destinations that without our services, their day-to-day life will be greatly affected,” Mauldin said. “This is an important service that provides access to jobs and healthcare and elevates the quality of life for hundreds of individuals.”

It’s a chance for her staff “to give a voice to those who may be forgotten,” she said.

Her role as executive director is to plan and coordinate ClasTran’s staff and empower them to assist their clients.

“I have noticed the more enthused I am about assisting those who rely on our services, the more my team is excited about exceeding expectations,” Mauldin said. “We provide a great need to the community by transporting individuals to their requested destination. It is an honor knowing my career makes this possible.”

She’s also responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of all ClasTran’s facilities, equipment, routes and services, and she serves as a liaison between all the government units that comprise their operations. Ultimately, the responsibility for the success or failure of ClasTran rests on her shoulders, and she takes that seriously.

In all of her work, Mauldin hopes to achieve a “wow factor.”

“We all know the greatest form of advertisement is word of mouth,” she said, noting that their positive image is something they’ve worked hard for. “Without any hesitation, we strive for all of our clients to recommend ClasTran to a friend or family member.”
