KEITH MIMS 

Neighborhood: Birmingham native, long-time Titusville resident.

Education: Ramsay High School graduate, attended UAB

Profession: Owner, ADBEST Advertising. Formerly owned Vie’s Children’s Shoes, Titusville.

QUALIFICATIONS: “I’m the most committed, the most consistent, the most results-driven. I don’t just talk. I have solutions.” Mims said he’ll be a leader “who speaks to the people and not down to the people” and “who’s not into personal perks and politics.”

How do you distinguish yourself from the incumbent? “With me, you get a professional ­— a business owner who understands the plight of business owners, and I’ll always proceed with the will of the people of District 6, unlike my opponent.”

Issues or concerns for district or city: “Clean and functional communities; job and business creation within the district; total honesty, integrity, accountability and transparency; and representation the people of District 6 can be proud of.”

SHEILA TYSON (I)

Neighborhood: A Birmingham native, Tyson lives in West End.

Education: West End High School graduate; U.S. Army Quartermaster School (degree in business and accounting)

Profession: Bookkeeper

QUALIFICATIONS: “I think at the heart of any good public servant is a love for the community that they serve, and a clear vision for its future. I have spent my life trying to improve this city and my service on the council is simply an extension of that.”

Accomplishments in current term: Demolition of abandoned buildings, including the demolition and redevelopment of Larkway Gardens; redevelopment of Loveman Village; and partnering with Urban Ministry to paint houses.

Issues or concerns for district or city: “I hope to continue my efforts at revitalizing and developing District 6,” she said, citing such needs as education and infrastructure.

KEITH WILLIAMS

Neighborhood: A Birmingham native, Williams lives in North Titusville.

Education: Studied business management at Alabama State and finance at Liberty University.

Profession: Associate minister at True Light Missionary Baptist Church; sales associate at Lowe’s; author and web designer.

QUALIFICATIONS: “I know what the people in my district are going through because I am going through their problems and share their concerns. I listen to people, access the situation and work with others to solve the problem.”

How do you distinguish yourself from the incumbent? “I’m in office to work for the people so that what goes on in Birmingham will benefit everyone.”

Issues or concerns for district or city: Among other priorities, including economic growth, Williams said he’ll “put pressure on city departments to destroy nuisance properties, maintain vacant and occupied properties and patrol high-crime areas to stop criminal activity at the source.”
