For its sixth iteration, the annual Birmingham International Street Fair will be held at a new location along 2nd Avenue and at the Avondale Brewing Company area, co-founder and co-planner Melissa Kendrick said.

“It’s about coming out and meeting your neighbors,” Kendrick said. “Even though it is at Avondale Brewing Company, it is absolutely family-friendly.”

On May 5, the volunteer-based Birmingham Multicultural Association will host a festival celebrating a variety of cultures through interactive education from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The popular event includes dance performances, music samples, arts and crafts vendors, henna stations and plenty of food trucks, which Kendrick said is usually people’s favorite part.

The idea of the street fair, Kendrick said, is for people to share and experience new cultures, whether it be through watching or participating in dance, listening to music or sampling food that they might not otherwise try.

Kendrick said all of the dancers and vendors are locally based.

She added that the event will be pet-friendly, and there will be cooling stations for the kids, as well as kiddie pools filled with water for the dogs.
