EDITOR’S NOTE: With the ongoing cancellation of events and activities due to the new coronavirus, we at Iron City Ink recommend people check with event organizers and websites to verify if an event is still happening before making plans to go. We tried to remove any events from our calendar that we knew had been canceled or postponed indefinitely as of press time.

The Alabama School of Fine Arts Dance Department will present its annual Senior Choreography Project in the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at 800 19th St. N. on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at 7 p.m.

ASFA seniors choreograph, cast, rehearse, costume and light their own pieces in the annual show, offering local dance fans a chance to experience work from a new generation of artists.

The senior project is a good place to see fresh, contemporary choreography, said Katie Roach Dudley, ASFA director of marketing.

“The students have a dance sensibility and musical taste that are different from what the faculty or our guest choreographers may have,” Dudley said.

There are only four dance seniors this year, but Germaul Barnes — a choreographer and dancer who recently joined the school’s faculty — will also premiere a new dance, Dudley said.

The senior project is a good opportunity for ASFA faculty “to discover who might be going in a choreographic direction,” said Wes Chapman, Dance Department chair.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Call 205-458-0360 or go to djdtheater.org/events.
