The eighth annual Birmingham Restaurant Week kicked off Wednesday night with a Preview Party at Pickwick Plaza in Five Points South. Various participating restaurants presented samples of food and drinks to the attendees. Seventy-three restaurants are participating in the Restaurant Week with more expected to join.

Attendees were given tickets to get samples from each table and milled about the venue while enjoying the different foods. Although the event started off with some light rain, each table was indoors or under a roof, keeping attendees and food dry. A band provided live music once the weather cleared up.

Birmingham Restaurant Week runs from August 11-20 with several events throughout. Participating restaurants will offer various specials to those dining, offering incentive for Birmingham residents to visit new restaurants.
