Aug. 6: East Lake Market. East Lake United Methodist Church. 8 a.m-noon. 7753 First Ave. S. The market includes produce, honey, baked goods and other food items. The event is a project of P.E.E.R. Aug. 13: Picasso Pets. 6-10 p.m. The Harbert Center, 2019 Fourth Ave. N. The nonprofit Hand in Paw will present this 21st annual art auction to help bring animal-assisted therapy to those who need it. The event will be a Secret Garden Party gala. It will feature a cocktail reception, seated dinner, live auction and the debut of the 2022 Picasso Pets paintings. Aug. 20: Dragon Boat Race & Festival. 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. East Lake Park, 8101 Fourth Ave. N. Mitchell’s Place, a nonprofit that helps children affected by autism and other developmental disabilities, will present this unique fundraiser. Dragon boat racing, which began in China 2,300 years ago, involves teams of 21 people rowing 46-foot-long Hong Kong-style boats. Twenty-five Local teams will compete in the event. Aug. 27: Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival. Noon-8 p.m. Historic 4th Avenue Business District, downtown Birmingham. Ongoing: Birmingham Bottling: Soft Drinks in the Magic City. Vulcan Park and Museum, 1701 Valley View Drive. This unique exhibit chronicles the many soft drink brands that were started in Birmingham, both past and present. Through Aug. 7: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. Red Mountain Theatre, 1600 Third Ave. S. Cinderella receives a makeover with a clever retelling and contemporary take on the classic tale. Though Aug. 13: 2022 Alabama Triennial. UAB Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts (AEIVA), 1221 10th Ave. S. AEIVA is hosting this inaugural Alabama Triennial feature some of Alabama’s best contemporary artists. Artists featured in the exhibition include Tony Bingham, Jillian Marie Browning, Annie Kammerer Butrus, Tameca Cole, Derek Cracco, Lauren Frances Evans, Steven Mark Finley Jr., Sydney A. Foster, Roscoe Hall, Chintia Kirana, Jonathan Lanier, Jasper Lee, Erin LeAnn Mitchell, Lily Reeves, Missy Roll and Lily Ahree Siegel. Tuesday through Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Admission is free.

Through Jan. 15, 2023: Expanding Darshan: Manjari Sharma, To See and Be Seen. Birmingham Museum of Art, 2000 Rev. Abraham Woods, Jr. Blvd. Bringing together the work of contemporary artist Manjari Sharma with pieces from the museum’s collections, this exhibition introduces nine of the most significant deities of the Hindu pantheon and their contemporary relevance in art and faith, serving as a gateway to the concept of darshan—seeing and being seen by the divine.
