Some of Birmingham’s best restaurant chefs and backyard cooks will grill burgers for a good cause at the second annual Birmingham Burger Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Avondale Brewing Co. on June 2.

The event raises money for the ALS Association Alabama Chapter.

Restaurants compete for the Birmingham's Best Burger award, with the winner becoming eligible for the World Food Championships, according to Ashley Horton, director of development for the Alabama Chapter.

Restaurants and groups of amateur cooks will compete for the People’s Choice award. The event also features craft beer, prize raffles, games and live music from The Tuckahoe Travelers and headliner CBDB.

“Avondale's environment offers space to sit and listen to music or play cornhole or just soak up the sun while having some yummy burgers,” Horton said.

The $15 admission gives each attendee four burger samples. To get more samples, people can purchase two additional tickets for $5, according to Horton.

All proceeds benefit care services programs that enable ALS patients to remain independent as long as possible. Those services are provided at no cost to patients.
