Birmingham's 11th annual Chinese New Year Festival was held on Saturday, Jan. 28. Red - traditionally associated with good fortune - filled Boutwell Auditorium as the community celebrated the beginning of the Year of the Rooster.

Some vendors sold gifts and souvenirs, including fans, lanterns and names written in Chinese. Others offered chopstick lessons or shared information about the Birmingham Chinese Association, the Coalition for Immigrant Justice and other area groups.

Onstage, performers included the Jasmine Dance Ensemble, a youth dance yoga performance, a Korean fan dance, Notinee Indian Dance, martial arts and a magician.
