Get your steins ready because on Saturday, Oct. 6 from noon-5 p.m., Railroad Park will get in the beer-drinking spirit and host another year of Birmingham Oktoberfest.

It will be largely the same as last year, event producer Catie Schreiman said, except it will be dog-friendly this time, and they are hoping for around 1,500 to 2,000 people to attend. Participants are encouraged to wear lederhosen and dress up.

“It’s a great way to get out and enjoy the beautiful Railroad Park,” she said.

The event will include German food such as jumbo pretzels or bratwurst and knockwurst sausages with sauerkraut, live authentic German polka music and other Oktoberfest-themed games and activities.

There will also be a costume contest for dogs, Schreiman said, and traditional German beers such as Hofbrau, Warsteiner and local beers focused on the Marzan style will be served.

Schreiman said there will also be various contests happening throughout the afternoon, including the stein hoisting, brawt toss and keg roll.

General admission tickets are $21 and include one complimentary beer and a 22-ounce souvenir beer stein. “Bier Lover’s” tickets are $50 and include four complimentary beers, a commemorative Birmingham Oktoberfest T-shirt and a souvenir beer stein.
