EDITOR’S NOTE: With the ongoing cancellation of events and activities due to the new coronavirus, we at Iron City Ink recommend people check with event organizers and websites to verify if an event is still happening before making plans to go. We tried to remove any events from our calendar that we knew had been canceled or postponed indefinitely as of press time.

The Cornerstone Schools of Alabama began in 1993 with only 13 students, according to the faith-based nonprofit’s website. But the Christian school, which is dedicated to serving Birmingham’s inner-city children, has seen enrollment grow by 98% over the past five years, according to a news release from the organization.

Cornerstone now has 595 students in grades K4 through 12 at campuses in Woodlawn and Roebuck.

To help educate this growing student body, the nonprofit will host its largest yearly fundraiser, the 15th annual Schoolhouse Rock event at Regions Field on Friday, March 13, from 7-11 p.m.

The event will feature cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, prizes and live music by Just a Few Cats.

All proceeds from the event go to Cornerstone students, said Jeff Jantz, president of the Junior Board. This money provides the students with “an opportunity to receive a world-class education in a Christ-centered environment,” Jantz said.

Hosted by the Junior Board of Cornerstone Schools, the event has become one of the school’s most successful events and draws about 700 attendees.

Advance tickets are $60 and available at educatebirmingham.org

Tickets are available at the door the night of the event for $65.
