A major event for cosplay fans and photographers, Iron City Cosplay Day Vault 205, will be held at Sloss Furnaces on May 11, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cosplayers enjoy the event’s “safe, fun and unique environment,” said organizer Chase Lawrence of Affliction Media Productions.

They’re also able to “network with others and get some really amazing photos,” he said. For photographers, Iron City Cosplay Day is a “new experience for some to be able to fill their portfolios, network with others and gain more creative ideas for something they have never done before,” he said.

The event, in its third year, draws photographers from the Southeast and internationally, according to Lawrence. There were about 500 attendees in 2018, and Lawrence hopes to attract between 800 and 1,000 people this year.

Lawrence hosted a similar event for five years at Birmingham Botanical Gardens before moving to Sloss, and the event gives cosplayers in the area a chance to take pictures of their costumes, some of which are made by hand, “at an even more amazing location.”

Admission is $10, and all proceeds go to Sloss Furnaces. Children ages 5 and younger are admitted free.
