Crestwood Holiday Craft Fair to be held Dec. 16 & 17

There’s a good reason that more and more shoppers seem to be attracted to one-of-a-kind arts and crafts, according to Luciana Giovinazzo, a co-owner of Manitou Supply Co., a vintage clothing shop in Crestwood.

“A handmade object or piece is so much better than anything mass-produced in a factory or a warehouse somewhere,” she said.

Now Giovinazzo and some of her fellow retailers in Crestwood will give shoppers a chance to browse a large selection of these quality goods and perhaps find the perfect holiday gifts.

The Crestwood Holiday Craft Fair will take place at Manitou Supply, The Jaybird and Bib & Tucker Sew-Op -- all located in the same building in the 4900 block of Fifth Avenue South -- on Saturday, Dec. 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m, and Sunday, Dec. 17, noon-4 p.m.

“There will be all sorts of artists and makers from Birmingham and surrounding areas,” Giovinazzo said.

And the event will feature such handmade wares as jewelry, prints, photography, paintings, drawings, ornaments, candles, vintage, soaps, henna, apothecary, fiber art and honey goods, according to Giovinazzo.

“There are so many talented artists and small businesses in Birmingham,” she said. “We want to be able to showcase some of that work and keep people interested in unique one-of-a-kind objects.”

The Jaybird is a gallery and events space that also offers zines and books, and Bib & Tucker is a sewing cooperative.

“We think people will enjoy navigating through our different shops and seeing what we are all about,” Giovinazzo said.

The event will also help draw some attention to the section of Crestwood between Woodlawn and East Avondale where these shops are located.

“We want people to know what is happening in their neighborhood, and we think that a craft fair is a good way to introduce our area,” Giovinazzo said.

There will be some food and refreshment at the sale, with hot drinks available, as well as vendors Ono Ice on Saturday and Roundabout Bagels on Sunday, according to Giovinazzo.
