Residents and business owners in Ensley, one of Birmingham’s oldest neighborhoods, are seeking to revitalize its commercial district.

And the Ensley Merchants Association and REV Birmingham will try to draw more people and positive attention to the area by hosting Ensley Eats, a special event on 19th Street downtown, on Wednesday, May 3, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., according to a REV news release.

Ensley Eats, described as a grab and go lunch hour, will feature Granny’s Fish and Grits, Urban Smoke Food Truck, Cantina on Wheels and Magic City Sweet Ice.

The goal of Ensley Eats is to “create foot traffic in the area to highlight the good that’s happening” in the neighborhood, said Aldrich Callins of the merchants association.

Association members --some of whom will be on hand to meet customers -- also hope that the event will increase public awareness of the new or long-time businesses in the area.

Merchants plan for Ensley Eats to be a recurring event, the release states.
