Greek Fest sees thousands for fun, food

The Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral hosted its 44th annual Greek Festival, which celebrates traditional Greek food and entertainment.

The festival began as a way to share Greek culture with those in Birmingham, and has grown into an event that draws thousands of guests each year from across the Southeast.

The three-day event featured an extensive menu, including gyros; Dolmathes, stuffed grape leaves; Souvlakia, a lamb skewer dish; stuffed pita bread and more. A crowd favorite was once again the Loukoumathes, fried doughnuts dipped in honey and dusted with cinnamon and sugar.

Festival goers had three days worth of traditional entertainment as well, including dance troupes and tours of the historic church.
