Hand in Paw will host its annual Picasso Pets fundraiser at The Harbert Center Aug. 11 at 6 p.m.

The unique event, in its 18th year, benefits the nonprofit’s animal-assisted therapy programs and features paintings created by pets — using their paws and tails, for example — with the help of local artists.

Patrons can enjoy silent and live auctions, a seated dinner and wine, beer and cocktails. The event will be a visual feast with a “pop art theme,” according to Brittany Jennings, Hand in Paw director of communications.

The venue will feature “tons of color and unique decorations,” Jennings said. And the silent-auction bidding process has been streamlined this year using cell phones and tablets, she said.

At least four artists will create works with pets. The pet owners buy the pieces, and the proceeds go to Hand in Paw.

Hand in Paw delivers animal therapy programs through more than 100 medical facilities, schools and agencies in Alabama.

Admission is $200. Reserved tables are available through various sponsorships. For tickets and information, go to 501auctions.com/picassopets.
