Few 5Ks begin and end with a beer, which is one of the reasons the Here2Beer 5K Race Series is becoming a popular running event in Birmingham, Cadence180 Consulting Race Director Allison Stone said.

Here2Beer, a monthly weeknight 5K event put on by Cadence180 Consulting, will offer its 5K this month on Wednesday, June 27, and take its usual route from Good People Brewing Company to Avondale Brewing Company.

Here2Beer consists of three weeknight events throughout the spring and summer, Stone said, and starts out with participants drinking an 8 oz. beer at Good People Brewing Company and ends with drinking another beer in Avondale. Participants must be 21 years old or older.

Stone said there is only 56 feet of total elevation gain, so most of the run is flat and fast. The course takes participants through downtown and along the Rotary Trail.

Runners who don’t drink beer can drink root beer and participate in the Competitive Division. If some runners prefer to instead take on the 5K and celebrate with friends separately afterwards, that is also an available option. Competitors who participate in either of these options will be chip-timed, and the top three male and female runners in both divisions will be given awards.

Packet pickup is 3 p.m. at Good People Brewing, and the 5K starts at 6 p.m., with the awards ceremony and post-race party at Avondale Brewing starting at 7 p.m.

The last Here2Beer event of the series will be Aug. 23. Discounts also apply if participants register for more than one event. Go to runsignup.com/Race/AL/Birmingham/Here2Beer5K to sign up.
