Suicide is one of the 10 leading causes of death in America and claims a life about every 10 hours in Alabama, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Alabama Chapter.

The good news is that suicide is preventable.

“Together we can learn the suicide risks and warning signs and encourage those who struggle to seek help,” said Jennifer Fields Hall, AFSP area director for Alabama.

To support this effort, the Alabama Chapter Junior Board will host its inaugural Party for Prevention at Back Forty Brewing, Saturday, July 13, 7-10 p.m. Proceeds will help the AFSP fund research and education and support those affected by suicide.

Activities will include beer, food, games, live music, a silent auction and raffle prizes, including a two-night stay at Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa. Back Forty — located at Sloss Docks — is “a great downtown location with a lot of green space,” allowing the Junior Board to host the event outdoors, Hall said

General admission is $50 and includes food and two drink tickets. VIP admission is $100 and includes food, two drink tickets, two raffle tickets, a t-shirt and a pin.
