Seasick Records will be hosting its first block party Oct. 28 that will include neighboring businesses in the Shoppes of Crestwood.

A North Carolina-based band, Superchunk, will be headlining the event. Superchunk became incredibly popular in the 90s and is considered legendary in the indie-punk scene.

“Superchunk is one of my favorite bands, and I’ve never seen them live,” said Dan Drinkard, owner of Seasick Records, “So we decided to see if we could book them. We planned a party around them.”

Aside from Superchunk, other bands have also been booked to bring some energy to the crowd. Holy Youth and Lady Legs, two Birmingham-based bands, will play the Seasick stage as well.

Drinkard promises food and drink, too. There will be ample beer, provided by a beer sponsor that has yet to be announced, as well as food from the local Crestwood Coffee Company and The Filling Station.

The event coincides with the Crimson Tide’s bye-week, which is a perfect excuse for football lovers to get out and buy local as well.

There will be a canned food drive that benefits The Firehouse Shelter and First Light Shelter, so bring cans.

Seasick is located at 5508 Crestwood Blvd. and can be reached at 677-3166.
