Sidewalk Film Fest organizers pursuing arthouse theater concept

by

As Sidewalk Film Festival prepares to get its 18th festival underway at the end of August, organizers will have one extra project on their minds.

Chloe Cook, Sidewalk's executive director, said the organization is currently considering the possibility of creating an arthouse theater in downtown Birmingham. A feasibility study is currently underway to determine community support for such a project.

The study is scheduled to be completed and reviewed in mid-August, after which more details will become available. One potential location being considered is the lower level of The Pizitz building, located at 1821 2nd Ave. N., below the Pizitz Food Hall.

Cook said Sidewalk is envisioning a two-screen theater to be a permanent home for first-run indie films and repertoire films. There would also likely be a full bar.
