You might not expect a kid who grew up in The Bronx, N.Y., to become an avid birder, but that’s exactly what Jason Ward did.

In fact, Ward is the star of the hit web series on YouTube called “Birds of North America.”

And Ward will make an appearance in Birmingham this Friday, Aug. 30, when he delivers the Summer Audubon Talk at Cahaba Brewing Co. in Avondale from  6–7:30 p.m. The event is hosted by Birmingham Audubon.

An Atlanta resident for over a decade, Ward volunteers with the Atlanta Audubon Society to lead bird walks and science surveys.

An experienced birder, self-proclaimed science nerd and social activist, Ward has also worked with Audubon as a freelance writer, exploring topics as diverse as bird-identification tips, Chimney Swift conservation and the role of race in the conservation movement.

For more about Ward’s talk, call 719-3678 or go to birminghamaudubon.org and click on “events.”
