This May, Taste of Five Points will be back for a second year, with even more Five Points-centric culinary options and retail vendors.

The event, presented by Spire and put on by Vulcan Park and Museum and the Five Points Alliance, will take place May 8 at Vulcan Park and last from 5:30-8 p.m. It will feature more than 30 vendors and offer entertainment while attendees try some of the neighborhood’s dishes.

“The Taste of Five Points gives attendees the opportunity to try food and cocktails from the many diverse and well-known restaurants who call Five Points home,” Kara Kennedy, public relations and marketing director of Vulcan Park, said.

Kennedy said they will continue a tradition from last year and announce the specialty Five Points Cocktail the day of the event.

James Little, who is the neighborhood district manager with Rev Birmingham for Five Points South and part of the planning committee, said Taste of Five Points was created last year to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the neighborhood creation, which is May 14.

“We always want to do the event around the anniversary, we try to get as close to the date as possibly,” he said. He added that there will be several pop-up shops, which makes it stand out from the usual “Taste of” events.

Advance individual tickets are $30, couple tickets are $50 and student tickets are $20. Tickets are $5 more at the door. Kids 12 years old or younger get in free.

“It gives visitors and locals an opportunity to try a sample of Five Points all at one time, in one place,” Little said.

Proceeds will benefit Vulcan Park and Museum in addition to a Five Points arts and entertainment initiative, Little said. Go to visitvulcan.com/event/tasteof2018 for tickets.
