The city of Birmingham is moving closer to hiring a new police chief.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin was scheduled to interview the following candidates between Monday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 25, according to a news release from City Hall on April 22.

More than 50 local and national candidates applied for the position from Feb. 1 to March 9, the release states.
