Get ready for a fiesta during Cinco de Mayo this year.

The 11th annual Fiesta Ball is May 5 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Iron City Birmingham, hosted by the Young Supporters Board of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Tickets to the Fiesta Ball include Mexican food, drinks, a silent auction and live music by Livewire.

All the proceeds go to support the Mary Ann Harvard Young Investigator Grants, a grant for young scientists conducting cancer research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The grant is extremely competitive. The Young Supporters Board was established in 2006 to prioritize the importance of cancer research and awareness to the next generation of Alabamians.

The funds from the silent auction benefit the board’s patient and family services activities.  “Without community support, we couldn’t provide the resources that are needed,” said Charlie Adams, president of the UAB Cancer Center’s Young Supporters Board. “We host many projects and fundraisers throughout the year including the annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Ball to go toward young investigator grants.”

The Fiesta Ball 2017 has a goal of $100,000. So far, more than 60 percent of that goal has been reached. People who can’t attend can still donate online.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. For tickets or to donate, go to uab.edu/fiestaball.
