YWCA Central Alabama to host block party in Woodlawn July 31

YWCA Central Alabama is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the opening of its Family Resource Center in Woodlawn.

To commemorate this milestone, the nonprofit will host a back-to-school Family Reunion Block Party on Saturday, July 31, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

The block party will be held at One 55th Pl. S., the same location as the Woodlawn Street Market, according to a July 26 YWCA news release.

Attendees must pre-register for the event, which is designed to help families obtain the supplies they need to start the school year. 

The event, for which 400 people have pre-registered, is described in the news release as "at-capacity."

Families will receive backpacks filled with school supplies. There will also be door prizes, such as gift cards, hygiene gift baskets, technology gadgets and back-to-school items.

Attendees will enjoy free food from such vendors as Travis’s Chicago Style Food Truck, Eugene’s Hot Chicken, Lillie’s Cup, Coca-Cola Bottling United, Bryce and Bray’s Bakery and Frito Lay.

There will also be information available regarding such organizations as the Family Resource Center, YWCA community housing,  YWCA Child Development Center, My Sister’s Closet resale boutique, YWCA domestic violence services and Christ Health Center.

Parking will be provided at the Family Resource Center at 100 59th St. S. and Christ Health Center at 5720 First Ave. S. Shuttle services will be provided.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing will be observed.
