Saturn will celebrate Valentine’s Day by hosting the seventh annual installment of “Romantically Challenged,” a dating game based on old TV shows, on Friday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m.

The event will be hosted by Sharon Cocx, Reese Eve Cocx and event founder and promoter Max Rykov

Contestants answer a variety of questions and perform a host of silly challenges to win the hearts of three featured bachelors and three bachelorettes, according to a news release from Rykov.

The winners on the show will receive gift certificates from some of Birmingham's best restaurants.

Rykov started “Romantically Challenged” in 2014 at the old Bottletree Cafe as “an alternative to the chaos of the app-based and superficial modern dating world,” he said in the release.

The event is also a way to avoid the pressure and high expectations that come with Valentine’s Day, Rykov said. “It's the perfect, low-stakes, high-fun night out for a group of friends,” he said.

The contestants were to be chosen about two weeks before the event

But the event is still fun for audience members, who can sit back and watch the contestants interact, Rykov said.

“I'm always impressed by the stage presence of the contestants and their ability to be funny and witty on stage,” he told Iron City Ink in 2019.

Tickets are $15. For details, go to romanticallychallengedbham.com or saturnbirmingham.com.
