Bards & Brews tonight at Avondale Library

Come out tonight to the Avondale Library for some comedy, spoken word and poetry and beer tasting for this month's Bards & Brews.

Entertainment by the improv organization Etc. Bham begins at 6:30 p.m. and poetry will begin to at 7 p.m. Craft beer will be provided by Avondale Brewing Co and The J. Clyde will be pouring the beer.

Kim West of Wallace Jordan Ratliff & Brandt said her firm "takes a lively interest in the cultural life of Birmingham, and is proud to promote poetry and spoken word performances at the Birmingham Public Library during April, Shakespeare's birthday month."

Bards & Brews has been in jeopardy because of a convergence of funding issues.

Birmingham Public Library Development Director Olivia Alison said she appreciates the law firm stepping up to sponsor this Friday's Bards & Brews.

"Wallace Jordan Ratliff & Brandt also sponsored our April 2016 Bards & Brews tribute marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. We are delighted to partner with the firm again this year," Alison said.

Any other organization or individual interested in becoming a sponsor of Bards & Brews or other BPL programs can contact Olivia Alison at 226-3613 or oalison@bham.lib.al.us. Donations can be made at bplonline.org/about/contributions/ or people can send donations to the Birmingham Public Library Development Department, located at 2100 Park Place.

Bards & Brews never before charged admission but hosted two “pay what you can” events Feb. 3 and March 3 to raise money. Donations are encouraged though and accepted at the door.
