The Birmingham City Council, at its regular meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 8, voted to endorse two more of the master plans currently being created with citizen input for each area of the Magic City.

Members voted to endorse the Southwest Area Communities Framework Plan, which was approved by the Birmingham Planning Commission on May 2. The Southwest Area takes in the the Brownsville, Grasselli and Southwest communities.

The council also voted to endorse the Northeast Area Communities Framework Plan, approved by the commission on June 21. That area takes in East Pinson Valley, Huffman, Cahaba and Roebuck/South East Lake.

There are a total of nine framework plans being developed across the city with the assistance of the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham.

These smaller plans are part of a larger comprehensive plan for the city of Birmingham, the first one created since 1961.

In addition, the council voted to set dates for public hearings regarding ordinances that would change the zone district boundaries for all properties in the two areas.

The council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 5, regarding the Northeast Framework Plan area.

The hearing regarding the ordinance affecting the Southwest Framework Area will be held on Tuesday, September 12.
