The 14th annual Chinese New Year Gala — a colorful celebration of Chinese culture — will return to Boutwell Auditorium downtown Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Doors open at 9 a.m.

The event — hosted by the Birmingham Chinese Festival Association — celebrates the Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year.

As always, the event will feature a variety of live entertainment, including opera, acrobats, drummers, magicians and folk music.

Other entertainment typically offered at the event includes yoga, martial arts, lion and dragon dancing and traditional Chinese dancing and crafts. The festival will also feature vendors offering lots of delicious Chinese food.

Boutwell Auditorium is located at 1930 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr Blvd.

Admission is $7 for adults and free for children ages 12 and under.

Tickets are available at the event or at bhmchinesefestival.org.

Organizers have also posted a short preview of the event at YouTube.
