City Council approves list of city venues for World Games

The Birmingham City Council, at its meeting on Monday, Dec. 30, approved the master venue agreement for the 2021 World Games. The agreement finalized the list of city-owned venues that will host events for the games, which will be held in the city July 15-25, 2021.

The agreement is between the city, the Birmingham Parks and Recreation Board, and The World Games 2021 Birmingham Foundation, according to a news release from the council.

Here is a list of the venues and the sports to be hosted there:

Legion Field and McLendon Park 

Sloss Furnaces

Birmingham Crossplex and Bill Harris Arena

Boutwell Auditorium

Avondale Park

Bessie Estelle Park

HEARING ABOUT CARRAWAY PROJECT

The council set a public hearing for January 28 to consider rezoning six properties to allow for the development of Northside Park, a mixed-used residential and retail project located in and around the former Carraway Hospital Campus in Druid Hills.

The properties considered for rezoning are the Carraway Hospital property and five others:
