The Birmingham City Council took a step today to make it easier for fans to find their way to Legion Field for UAB Blazer football games.

At its regular meeting for Tuesday, August 6, the Council approved an agreement between the city and The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees that will allow UAB to install 23 directional or wayfinding signs on city rights of way at various locations. The signs will provide game-day directions to the stadium

The item — part of the Council’s consent agenda — was submitted by Mayor Randall Woodfin and recommended by the city’s Director of Planning, Engineering and Permits and the Council’s Public Improvement Committee.

The Blazers, who won the Conference USA championship in 2018, will open their season at Legion Field against Alabama State on Thursday, August 29, at 7 p.m.

Their next home game will be against South Alabama on Saturday, September 21, at 2:30 p.m.

The Council had a light workload today. All but one item on the agenda was dispensed with as part of the body’s consent agenda. All items on consent are routine and non-controversial and are approved each week in one vote.

PLANS FOR BANKS

Mayor Woodfin will host a town hall meeting on the future of the long-vacant Banks High School property on Tuesday, August 6, at 5:30 p.m., at Donald Hawkins Rec Center.

The event will be held in a meeting room on the third floor of the center, which is located at 8920 Roebuck Blvd.

Representatives with the Auburn University Urban Studio will have design and development drawings and models of potential concepts available for review.

Banks High has been vacant since 2007 and sits on about 25 acres in South East Lake.
