Jefferson County Courthouse to reopen to public May 1

The Jefferson County Commission will reopen the Jefferson County Courthouse downtown and all satellite locations to the public on May 1, according to a county news release

However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, people are encouraged to transact business online whenever possible.

In addition, county departments are still encouraging their employees to tele-commute where possible.

Following state health orders, the courthouse and satellite locations will operate as follows:

• Plexiglass shields are being added to all public-facing counters, such as those in the Department of Revenue and the Tax Assessor's office.
• The courthouse is being cleaned according to CDC guidelines
• Social distancing is required for people who are waiting for service.
• Employees and customers will comply with the ordinance passed by the Birmingham City Council on April 28 requiring that people wear a face covering in public.

The state Department of Revenue extended tag renewals that were due in March and April until May 15, and those can be taken care of online. To renew a tag, click here.
