The UAB College of Arts and Sciences can expect to move into a shiny, spacious new home in time to hold classes for the fall term of 2019, according to a university news release.

The University Of Alabama System Board Of Trustees approved stage three of planning for the building, which will cost about $39.5 million, in early February, the release states.

Construction is expected to begin in summer 2017. For a complete project timeline, click here.

The 160,000-square-foot facility – with two wings and a 300-seat auditorium – will be located on the corner of 10th Avenue South and 14th Street South.

The building will replace the aging UAB Humanities Building and will provide a home for the departments of anthropology, computer and information sciences, English, foreign languages and literatures, mathematics, philosophy and social work.

Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood in Montgomery will serve as architects.
