Gospel Choir to honor its founder

Current members of the UAB Gospel Choir, as well as alumni from Alabama and other states, will take part in a reunion performance in the Jemison Concert Hall at the Alys Stephens Center on Monday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., according to a UAB news release.

The event will be the group’s 22nd anniversary and represent a farewell to founding director Kevin P. Turner, who will leave UAB in January 2018, the release states.

The 90-minute concert will feature renditions of hit songs, crowd favorites and a tribute to choir members who have died.

Also appearing will be performing arts troupe Workmanship Incorporated and local recording artists Kyndra Stoudimire and Harrel D. Young Williams.

Concert-goers are invited to arrive early to take commemorative pictures with the director. Concert hall doors will open at 6:30 p.m

Tickets are $7 general admission and $6 for UAB students, faculty and staff.

The service will begin with the posting of colors by the UAB ROTC, followed by a prayer from retired Bessemer Police Chief Nathaniel Rutledge and remarks by Sewell.
