Beginning at 6 p.m., the center will offer bars, food trucks and free Latin social dance lessons with Sergio Rodriguez.

The performance is part of a month of events – the Celebración! Series – honoring Latin culture.

The events, including dance, live music and film screenings, are presented by UAB and numerous community partners.

The series, which began on Sept. 7, will conclude on Monday, Oct 16.

Homecoming festivities

UAB will finish its Homecoming festivities for 2017, which have the theme “Blazers United,” when the UAB Blazers football team takes on Louisiana Tech at Legion Field on Saturday, Oct. 7, with kickoff at 3 p.m., according to a university news release.

The homecoming parade will be held at noon on Friday, Oct. 6, followed by a pep rally on the Campus Green.

There will also be a Mock Dorm Burn in the UAB Mini-Park on Oct. 6 from 1-1:30 p.m., conducted by the UAB Occupational Health & Safety Department, with the help of the Birmingham Fire Department.

The winners of the 36th annual Mr. and Ms. UAB Scholarship Competition, which is sponsored by the UAB National Alumni Society, will be announced at halftime of the football game on Saturday. Each winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship and serve as an ambassador of UAB in the coming year.

The 220-member-strong Marching Blazers will perform with the UAB Alumni Band during pre-game.

And at halftime, the Marching Blazers will present its entire 2017 field show, “The British Invasion,” with music from such artists as Adele, Elton John and David Bowie.
