Designer to show her looks at New York Fashion Week

Crestwood resident and clothing designer Tiffanie Williamson-Martin has loved fashion since she was 12 years old.

She started her own company in 2013 and recently graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree in apparel and textiles.

Now, at age 30, she has what she calls “an opportunity of a lifetime” -- a chance to show her work at New York Fashion Week in February.

“I’m excited about showing in New York City because it’s the fashion capital,” Williamson-Martin said.

She’ll present 15 looks in a event for emerging designers at The Roosevelt Hotel on February 11.

“I hope this opens the door for buyers to buy my clothing,” said Williamson-Martin, who also wants help in building her business.

She relies on vibrant colors, such as yellows, pinks, greens and blues, and focuses on sophisticated clothing for women in their late 20s through their late 40s.

“I love this age bracket,” she said. “I’ve worked in retail and browsed around specialty shops and love the clothing for seasoned women.”

“Clothes are a way of expression,” Williamson-Martin said, adding that the clothes a person wears says a lot about them

“You should represent your best self every day,” she said. “Don’t be sloppy, thrown together, but look crisp, look sharp, look like you are out on a mission. Dress for success.”

To pursue her career, Williamson-Martin would like to relocate from Birmingham -- to New York or overseas -- and also wants to sell her garments from her website.
