Mitchell’s Place is once again raising awareness and money through its second annual Dragon Boat Race and Festival at East Lake Park on Aug. 20 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Local, corporate and community teams of 21 people will race in 46-foot-long Hong-style boats, according to a press release.

Dragon boat racing is a “unique cultural event” that dates back 2,300 years, per the press release.

“It’s for an amazing cause! It helps raise awareness about autism in traditionally underserved communities,” said Sara Nall, executive director at Mitchell’s Place, in the press release. “This wonderful team building experience allows corporations, churches and any type of business to not only provide life changing therapies to families, but also helps to educate others about autism, what it looks like and how they can seek help.”

The Dragon Boat and Race Festival will have a kids zone that features activities such as wall climbing, face painting and games.

The festival will also feature local vendors, food, drinks, music, autism services information and a Bloody Mary contest hosted by the Mitchell’s Place Junior Board, per the press release.

Admission for spectators is free.
