The East Lake Farmers Market, now in its 13th year, returns to East Lake United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 5, 8 a.m.-noon, with fresh produce, crafts, live music and baked goods from the church’s kitchen.

The kickoff event will also include The Strawberry Festival, according to the Rev. Sally Allocca, the church’s senior pastor.

Attendees will enjoy free treats, such as strawberry sherbet and strawberry shortcake, as well as a couple of Cinco De Mayo-themed food and beverage items, according to Allocca.

The market runs each Saturday through Oct. 13. About 15 farmers and crafters take part at season’s peak, according to Allocca. It has become a big part of East Lake through the years, according to Allocca.

“It’s neat to meet people,” she said. “People get attached to the farmers. They love to hear the great music. People have really claimed it as their own.”

The events include booths offering health and community information, cooking demonstrations and children’s activities.

On market days, the church’s thrift store is open, as well as Urban Collective, a coffee shop and used-book store housed in the church.
