Part of the United Way of Central Alabama’s work in the community is offering financial stability programs for families and individuals.

These programs include free workshops on topics such as money management, debt reduction and goals-setting.

“Until you take control of your money, you can never be in control of your life,” said Judy Woods, UWCA financial stability specialist

Two workshops are scheduled for June. The UWCA will host a “Lunch & Learn” session, “Know Your Rights When Renting, Buying or Securing Financing for Housing,” from 11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. on June 19. The session will cover fair housing laws and consumer rights. A home buyer workshop will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 23 to help participants learn what they can afford, how to get their finances in order and how to improve their credit score.

Classes are held at the UWCA, located at 3600 Eighth Ave. S. The workshops are interactive and conducted by industry experts who share professional knowledge and personal stories, according to Woods.

The classes help attendees “create the confidence needed to better understand and manage money in their different situations,” Woods said.
