Sloss Realty, owner of Pepper Place, has sought to make the historic mixed-use facility a hot destination for creatives, local retailers, bars and restaurants.

And the developer’s vision got another boost in March.

Fashion designer Billy Reid, who’s based in Florence but sells his clothes internationally, announced he will open a retail store at Pepper Place this summer. The store will be “a lifestyle extension” of the designer’s brand, “bringing the soul and flavor of the South to life through fashion, music, food and art,” Reid said in a news release.

Reid makes luxury clothing and accessories for men and women and has won multiple Council of Fashion Designers of America awards.

“I start with classic American clothing and take it in a modern direction,” Reid says at billyreid.com.

His label is sold in his 13 U.S. boutiques, including two locations in New York, as well as department stores Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales and Nordstroms and two stores in Japan

Reid is pleased to be located at Pepper Place, according to the release. “The space itself radiates the gritty, industrial history of the city,” he said.

At press time, no further details were available about Reid’s opening date or precise location at Pepper Place.
