GRADUATION

The regular academic year at UAB will come to its usual dramatic conclusion this weekend with two days of spring commencement activities at Bartow Arena on campus.

A commencement and doctoral hooding ceremony for nearly all graduate programs will be held at Bartow on Friday, April 27, at 6 p.m., according to a UAB news release.

Unlike prior years, students receiving master’s degrees will get their diplomas along with the doctoral candidates. There will be no separate doctoral hooding ceremony on Saturday.

There will be two ceremonies for undergraduates at Bartow on Saturday, April 28, at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to the release.

Undergraduates in the School of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences will be awarded diplomas during the morning ceremony.

Undergraduates in the schools of Business, Engineering, Public Health, Health Professions and Nursing will receive their diplomas in the afternoon ceremony.

About 715 students will earn graduate degrees for spring 2018, and 1,423 will earn undergraduate degrees, the release states.

About 1,500 will participate in the university’s ceremonies.

An estimated 2,138 students are scheduled to graduate from UAB this spring.

Tickets are not required; but seating for the commencement ceremonies are first come, first served.

Bartow Arena doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The ceremonies will be recorded and added online for viewing at uab.edu/commencement about a week after the ceremonies.
