AWARDS FOR 'DREAMS OF HOPE'

The inspiring concert documentary “Dreams of Hope” — co-directed by filmmaker David Macon and UAB Professor of Music Henry Panion III — recently won big in the 41st annual Telly Awards.

The film won the Gold Telly for Education and 12 Silver and Bronze awards, according to UAB Media Relations.

“Dreams of Hope” features a performance at the historic 16th Street Baptist Church in downtown Birmingham. The film blends concert performance footage with behind-the-scenes interviews chronicling the event’s preparation

An initiative called Violins of Hope contributed restored musical instruments to the event, including violins recovered from WWII Nazi concentration camps.

Musicians and artists, including some from UAB, performed and contributed to the creation of the concert and documentary.

Presented and distributed by American Public Television, the film has been shown on public television stations nationwide more than 300 times since its February premiere.
