Since 2011, independent record label Communicating Vessels has been “making and sharing something valuable,” owner Jeffrey Cain said, through selling carefully crafted double-vinyl releases and CDs, many released through its in-house studio opened in 2013.

Cain, who is also a producer, writer, recording artist and the former guitarist of Remy Zero, wanted to share artists’ stories and sounds through his recording studio and maintain his vision to be an “artist-built label.”

The record label has produced music from several local and regional bands, including Through the Sparks, Duquette Johnston, Man or Astro-man?, Dead Fingers, Noel, Armand Margjeka, The Grenadines, Gregory Scott Slay, Isidore, Remy Zero, Dead Snares \\GT//, WRAY, Future Elevators, Lady Legs, Dirty Lungs, Shaheed and DJ Supreme, The Green Seed, The Great Book of John, Rose of the West and Sanders Bohlke.

Many of the bands have won awards from the albums created in-studio.

Located at 15 55th Plaza North in historic Woodlawn, Communicating Vessels is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They also sell vinyl singles, posters, artist-related materials and work by local graphic designers and photographers.

People are encouraged to come by and check out the shop and studio or reach out about recording. To learn more, go to communicatingvessels.com.
