The popular Woodlawn Street Market returns for its sixth season beginning Saturday, April 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We continue to make Woodlawn a more vibrant community through this fun community event that also grows local businesses,” market co-founder Rebekah Fox said in a REV Birmingham news release.

Held on 55th Place South, the market features up to 80 vendors selling art, jewelry, clothing, toys and home decor. There are also food vendors. The market will take place on three additional Saturdays — June 8, Aug. 10 and Oct. 12 — and on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Many local entrepreneurs and startups have used the events to launch their businesses. There were 40 or 50 first-time vendors during the 2018 season, according to Fox. Entertainment planned for the season includes dance battles hosted by Creative Mindz and live graffiti-art demonstrations.

Woodlawn also draws additional foot traffic on market days.

“There’s an influx of people visiting, walking around, engaging and spending money at local businesses, becoming familiar and possibly more comfortable with the neighborhood and larger community of Woodlawn,” Fox told Iron City Ink in 2018.
