The Woodlawn Street Market — featuring up to 80 local vendors and food trucks — returns to the historic Birmingham neighborhood for its seventh season beginning April 4.

Held on 55th Place between 1st Avenue North and 1st Avenue South, the market features a wide variety of wares, including food, art, toys, jewelry, clothing and home decor.

For the first time, two markets will be held at night, in June and August, according to a news release from REV Birmingham, one of the organizers.

The market held its inaugural nighttime event in August and got a positive response, according to the release.

In addition to offering attendees a unique, curated shopping experience at each event, the market adds to the vibrancy of Woodlawn’s commercial district.

“There’s an influx of people visiting, walking around, engaging and spending money at local businesses, becoming familiar and possibly more comfortable with the neighborhood and larger community of Woodlawn,” event co-founder and organizer Rebekah Fox told Iron City Ink in 2018.

The crowd is also very diverse. “One of my favorite things about the market is the crowds, big or small, full of all kinds of people, walking around the street together,” Fox said.

The 2020 Woodlawn Street Market will be held on the following dates:

► Saturday, April 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

► Saturday, June 13, 5-9 p.m.

► Saturday, Aug. 8, 5-9 p.m.

► Saturday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..

► Sunday, Dec. 6, noon to 4 p.m.

Since it began in 2014, the market has allowed more than 500 Birmingham startups and other entrepreneurs to launch their businesses and get feedback from customers, and 10 spaces at each market are reserved for first-time vendors, organizers said.

“We love creating a space to where Birmingham businesses — especially businesses right here in Woodlawn — can share their goods and services and grow their success,” Fox said in the release.

The #WoodlawnMade tent will feature goods from Woodlawn entrepreneurs working with the REV Birmingham Business Growth team.

Other entertainment this season will include dance, graffiti art demonstrations, a fitness and wellness day camp and line-dancing classes.
