Silvertron Cafe, a neighborhood restaurant that has become an institution in Forest Park Village, is closing after 32 years.

Co-owner Marco Morosini -- who has operated the eatery with his wife, Elan, for a little over 10 years -- made the announcement in a Facebook post late last night, Tuesday, May 29.

“Due to a serious illness in the family, the Morosinis are moving to Italy to help family in a time of need,” he said in the post.

“We are sad to be leaving our wonderful neighbors,” Morosini said. “We have been witness to proposals, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, first dates, baby's first outings, a series of fabulous drag brunch performances, and weddings.”

Morosini thanked the members of the Forest Park South Avondale Business Association, of which he had served as president, and the Forest Park South Avondale Neighborhood Association.

Morosini said that the Heart to Table program, which he and some other local restaurateurs created to provide hot food for guests at the city’s warming stations during the winter, will continue. The program will be run by Don Lupo of the city’s Citizen's Aid Office.

He also thanked the city, including City Council President Valerie Abbott, for supporting some street improvements in the area.

“We are grateful to have been woven into the fabric of your daily lives, and will treasure the memories and friends made at Silvertron Cafe,”  Morosini said in closing.

The restaurant took its name from a television repair shop previously located in the building, according to bhamwiki.com.
