The 16th annual Breakin’ Bread food, wine and beer festival returns to its original Pepper Place location 1-5 p.m. Oct. 14.
Breakin’ Bread — held for seven years at other venues such as Railroad Park and Sloss Furnaces — features dishes from more than 30 locally owned restaurants that are members of the Birmingham Originals nonprofit.
Pepper Place was “the perfect fit” for the event this year due to its layout, atmosphere and other factors, according to Chris Zapalowski, president of Birmingham Originals and owner of Homewood Gourmet.
Celebrating the event’s 15th year in 2017 had an impact on the group, he said.
“We figured it was time to get back to our roots,” Zapalowski said, calling Pepper Place “a cultural hub.”
For the first time, Breakin’ Bread is partnering with Buffalo Rock Makers’ Market to bring artists and craftsmen to the event. Participating restaurants include Avo, The Bright Star, Cantina, Little Savannah, Nabeel’s Café & Market, Serendipity and Sky Castle.
Proceeds benefit Jones Valley Teaching Farm, a two-acre farm managed by Woodlawn High School students. VIP tickets are $99, general admission tickets are $35. Children 12 and younger are free.
