Alabama Audubon will celebrate its upcoming 75th anniversary with a specialty license plate available to state residents.
Since its founding in 1946, Alabama Aubudon — formerly known as the Birmingham Audubon Society — has worked to promote conservation and a greater knowledge of birds, their habitats and the natural world.
The organization is now celebrating its upcoming 75th anniversary with its own specialty license plate available to Alabama residents.
The “Protect Our Birds” tag will generate revenue to support the nonprofit's conservation and outreach efforts, according to a news release from Alabama Aubudon.
Based in Avondale, Alabama Audubon has staffed offices in Birmingham, Greensboro and on the Gulf Coast and works year-round to monitor bird species and protect habitat.
“There’s never been a better time to enjoy birds, or a more important time to support bird conservation,” Executive Director Ansel Payne said in the news release. “This new specialty license plate is an exciting way to do both.”
There are two ways for supporters to commit to buying the tag. They can commit to purchase directly from the state at alaudubon.org/get-the-tag.
They can also request that Alabama Audubon cover the $50 commitment-to-purchase fee.
Details of both options are available at the Alabama Audubon website.
Production of the plates requires 1,000 commitments to purchase by July 31, 2021. Once those commitments have been secured, the Alabama Department of Revenue will begin producing and distributing the plates.
